How Does An Electronic Cigarette Work?

Basically, as illustrated in the video above, an electronic cigarette is comprised of only a few parts that work together to create the vapor that we inhale:

• The “atomizer” is the heating element of the eCig and is responsible for vaporizing the eLiquid into the aerosol-like vapor.
• The “cartridge” stores the eLiquid and doubles as the mouthpiece for you to inhale through.
• The “eLiquid” contains the flavoring and liquid nicotine and is heated by the atomizer.
• The “power supply” usually consists of a lithium battery that can be recharged for continued use.

Some electronic cigarettes combine the atomizer and the cartridge into one part, simply known as a “cartomizer.” This combination piece is more cost effective and can be replaced easier than a traditional atomizer.

By activating the atomizer via a small button, you can instantly heat your eLiquid. Inhaling slowly causes the vapor to flow up through the cartridge (or cartomizer), directly into your mouth and lungs. If you’ve ever had a real cigarette, it’s pretty much the same motion – only instead of lighting the tip with a lighter, you press a button!
