On of the greatest thing about electronic cigarettes is also one of the biggest deciding
factors that causes people to switch over from analog cigarettes: the ability to control the amount of nicotine that you consume. With an analog cigarette, you’re subject to the amount of nicotine in the brand you’re smoking. On the other hand, with electronic cigarettes and eLiquid, you’re able to specify the different levels of nicotine that you order!
In the world of eCigs, we can gauge the equivalent mg/mL in our eLiquid to the levels that we find in various cigarette varieties. Here’s an example of how AmericaneLiquidStore.com measures our nicotine strengths:
- Non nicotine: 0 mg nicotine, which means absolutely no nicotine.
- Low density: 6 mg nicotine, which is comparable to Ultra Light Strength Cigarettes.
- Medium density: 12 mg nicotine, which equivalents to Medium Strength Cigarettes.
- High density: 18 mg nicotine, which is common in Regular Strength Cigarettes.
- XHigh density: 24 mg nicotine, which equivalents to Strong Cigarettes.
- XXHigh density: 36 mg nicotine, most comparable to Very Strong Cigarettes.
If you’re someone who loves strong cigarettes but can’t wean yourself down to a lower nicotine level, you might fall in league with the many people who have used eLiquid for “stepping.” Stepping is a method in which an eCig user buys their regular nicotine strength first and begins to gradually step down in strengths until they reach a level that’s more suitable. This could mean going from 24mg/mL to 12mh/mL or even something more drastic. Many people have found that this is easier than quitting cold turkey or trying to switch brands.
When selecting nicotine levels in eLiquid, many people have also found themselves voluntarily stepping down. This is because they find out that the nicotine level that they’ve become used to isn’t actually their best fit. What we mean is that someone smoking strong cigarettes, roughly 24mg/mL, might have to deal with a harsh throat hit each time they inhale. They might become used to this and put up with it, but little do they know that one step down, 18mg/mL, they’d get the same satisfaction from the nicotine level and not even notice the throat hit!
If you’re new to eCigs and want to find your nicotine level, there are a couple of ways to go about doing so. Firstly, if you’re a former analog cigarette smoker, you could start with the level that you’re most accustomed to and try different levels from there. It doesn’t take long to figure out which level is right for you! Second, if you’ve never been a smoker and are brand new to eCigarettes, you might want to try things from the middle and work your way out. That means getting a small bottle of 18mg/mL eLiquid and stepping up or down from there (although we recommend going down if you’re BRAND new to eCigs).
